Dozens of anime characters, flags and humorous messages have appeared across Tashkent’s map on the global pixel art platform Wplace.

The site allows anyone to draw on an interactive world map, but with one catch – each participant can place only a single pixel every 30 seconds. While cities in Uzbekistan still lag behind major hubs in the West and Asia in terms of volume, Tashkent already boasts plenty of eye-catching creations.

A large portion of the artwork features characters from anime, films and video games. Viewers can spot Asuka and Rei from the anime series Evangelion, figures from Death Note and Ace Attorney, and several portraits of the Joker scattered around the suburbs.

Other contributions include the flags of the United Kingdom, Brazil, Ukraine, Israel and the former Uzbek SSR. Pop culture references range from the cover of a Pink Floyd album to the logos of Half-Life and Minecraft.

As Tashkent’s map fills up, Wplace users have begun turning their attention to other Uzbek cities. The first drawings have already appeared over Samarkand and Bukhara. Anyone with internet access can take part in creating this evolving global canvas.

Kursiv also reports that Electronic Arts has revealed new details about Battlefield 6, including nine launch maps set across five countries. Among them is a mountainous map inspired by the rugged terrain of Tajikistan.
