Tristan Rogers, the Australian-born actor whose career stretched over several decades and who became a household name through his portrayal of Robert Scorpio on ABC’s daytime drama General Hospital, has died at the age of 79.

His passing was confirmed by his long-time manager, Meryl Soodak, who told ABC7 entertainment correspondent George Pennacchio that the actor died on Friday, August 16, morning after a struggle with lung cancer. Soodak stressed that Rogers had never smoked. She described his role on General Hospital as central to his life, saying:

«He loved being Scorpio and he built that role from nothing. What was meant to be a one-day part became something extraordinary. He was a loyal and kind person, deeply devoted to his family.»

Rogers’ time as Robert Scorpio spanned more than four decades, with the character’s popularity making him one of the most enduring figures in the soap’s history.

Frank Valentini, Executive Producer of General Hospital, paid tribute, saying

«The entire General Hospital family is heartbroken to hear of Tristan Rogers’ passing. He has captivated fans for more than 50 years and Port Charles will not be the same without him, or Robert Scorpio. Tristan was a unique talent and will be greatly missed. Our deepest sympathies go to his family and friends at this difficult time. May he rest in peace.»

Rogers is survived by his wife, two children and a grandchild.
