Liverpool supporter banned from football matches after racist insult towards Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo

A Liverpool supporter who racially abused Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo has been banned from attending football matches across the UK.
Merseyside Police confirmed that the 47-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence following the incident at Anfield on Friday. He has now been released on conditional bail, which includes a ban from regulated football matches and a restriction preventing him from coming within one mile of any designated stadium.
The abuse took place in the 29th minute of the match when Semenyo went to take a throw-in. Witnesses reported the fan shouting a racist insult before throwing chewing gum at the Ghanaian forward, who later scored twice in the game.
Nick Collins, a Liverpool fan seated nearby, said the individual is a season ticket holder known for disruptive behaviour, claiming «he has crossed the line before by throwing things at officials.» The game was temporarily halted as officials and police dealt with the situation.
Police have stressed that racism will not be tolerated and confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing.
