President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has reviewed the progress of large-scale development projects in New Tashkent.
Construction of the city began in 2023, with 19,700 hectares allocated in the Yukorichirchik and Urtachirchik districts. The master plan was developed by the British design firm Cross Works.
During the first stage, covering 6,000 hectares, the city will provide housing for around 600,000 people. In the longer term, New Tashkent is expected to accommodate up to 2 mln residents. Current work focuses on underground utilities, tunnels and parking facilities.
Modern Infrastructure and Government Quarter

Plans for the city include the introduction of a metro system, electric buses and infrastructure prioritising pedestrians and cyclists. The administrative district will feature more than 60 government buildings, with several ministries already operating from temporary offices within the new city.
Following auctions, agreements worth $554 mln have been signed across 13 commercial lots. These developments will bring hotels, restaurants and modern architecture designed to position New Tashkent as a future tourist hub.
The construction phase is expected to create 160,000 jobs. Once completed, New Tashkent will generate hundreds of thousands of permanent positions in innovation, education, healthcare and the IT sector, reinforcing its role as a major urban and economic centre.
Mirziyoyev also stressed that New Tashkent is set to become a hub for opportunities, ideas, markets and investment.
