
China’s electric vehicle market posted mixed results in the third week of August, with some brands recording sharp gains while others faced steep declines. The period, covering August 18 to 24, 2025, underscored the volatility of the sector as competition intensifies, CNC reports.
Winners of the Week
Leapmotor emerged as the standout performer, registering a record 12,100 units, a 16.3% rise from the previous week and nearly doubling sales from the same period in 2024. Xpeng also shone, delivering 8,200 vehicles, up 192.9% year on year. Xiaomi matched Xpeng’s weekly figure with 8,200 units, marking a staggering 290.5% increase compared with last year.
Onvo continued its momentum, hitting a 52-week high with 4,104 units sold. Its L90 SUV dominated with 2,542 units, while the L60 mid-size SUV accounted for 1,562.
Mixed Results for Leading Brands
BYD registered 70,600 vehicles, an 8.3% increase from the previous week but still 19.6% lower than the same week in 2024. Fang Cheng Bao, BYD’s premium sub-brand, recorded 3,800 units, up 13.1% week on week and 151.7% higher year on year.
Nio delivered 2,584 units, slightly up from the prior week but down 43.8% year on year, widening the gap with its sub-brand Onvo. The Nio Group in total logged 7,571 units, up 5.3% week on week.
Tesla saw the steepest decline among major players, with registrations falling to 10,300 units, down 26.4% from the previous week and 27.5% below last year’s level.
Li Auto bounced back with 7,600 units, up 35.7% week on week, though still 34.5% below the same period in 2024.
Other Performers
Aito delivered 9,800 units, a 27.3% weekly increase and nearly 9% growth year on year. Deepal remained flat at 4,000 units but was slightly higher than last year. Zeekr rose to 3,600 units, up 20% year on year. Avatr improved to 2,210 units, while Firefly stayed steady at 883.
GAC Aion registered 5,800 units, up 16% from the week before, though down 26.6% from a year earlier.
