President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has stated that the national economy is forecast by the IMF to surpass $130 bn this year. As of August, the country’s GDP had already reached $115 bn.

«Such rapid growth and such high international recognition have never been seen before in Uzbekistan,» he declared at a ceremony honouring representatives of business, science and culture on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of independence.

The president underlined that these results were achieved through support for entrepreneurship, the construction of industrial enterprises and the transition to a green and innovative economy. He noted that more than 500,000 flats have been built in the past eight years – four times more than in the previous quarter-century of independence. In addition, 60 trln soums ($4.3 bn) have been allocated for the modernisation of infrastructure in mahallas and rural areas. With investment worth $115 bn, over 100,000 new projects have been launched across the country.

Mirziyoyev also pointed to significant growth in spending on social infrastructure. Over the past eight years, investment in this sphere has increased six-fold, enabling the expansion of kindergartens, schools and universities.

He further highlighted the rapid development of the construction industry. The production of building materials has now reached almost $6 bn, while construction works in 2024 amounted to $23 bn – four times higher than in 2016.

«In creating this new history and shaping the new image of our country, you, dear compatriots, have made a worthy contribution. For this I express my deep gratitude,» the head of state concluded.
