The Tashkent Metro has introduced more than ten different payment methods to make travel easier for passengers and reduce queues at ticket offices.

As a result, the need for ticket cashiers is gradually declining. This has led to the phased reduction of cashier positions at closed ticket offices. In the first stage alone, carried out in line with approved legal regulations, 204 cashier roles were eliminated.

By the end of this year automated ticket machines will be installed at every metro station. Once this process is complete the roles of cashiers and senior cashiers will no longer exist in the Tashkent Metro.

To support its workforce through this transition, the administration of Tashkent Metro has announced plans to create new opportunities for affected employees. Every member of staff whose role is being cut will be offered the chance to attend professional retraining courses, tailored to their preferences and abilities. Options include accounting, tailoring, confectionery and other fields.

Importantly, the cost of these retraining programmes will be fully covered by Tashkent Metro in line with established procedures.

The main aim of this initiative is to provide support for employees whose roles are being phased out and to help them secure a stable source of income by mastering a new profession.
