Mirziyoyev Reaffirms Uzbekistan’s Commitment to Democratic Reforms

At an event marking the 34th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s independence, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev declared that the country would never step back from its path of strengthening democratic reforms, regardless of the difficulties ahead.
«We will certainly complete the great work we have begun. Let us never forget: we are one people, one nation, one family,» the president said.
He expressed gratitude to the citizens of Uzbekistan and wished peace, stability and prosperity to every household. Earlier, the president had stressed that the republic would mobilise all resources to combat corruption, monopoly and spiritual threats which undermine the welfare of the people.
Over the past five to six years, the national poverty rate fell from 35% to 6.8%. This year, 19 trln soums ($1.5 bn) will be allocated to support those in need.
Further efforts and funding will also be directed towards teachers, doctors, education and public health. Mirziyoyev pointed out that the share of young people entering higher education has risen sharply, from 9% to 42% in recent years.
