By 2030 the share of green spaces in Uzbekistan’s cities will be increased to 30% in line with the ‘Green City’ standard, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced during celebrations marking the 34th anniversary of independence.

He stressed that preserving the environment was a duty owed to future generations. «We see it as our sacred responsibility to hand over to future generations a beautiful homeland with fertile soil, clean water and fresh air by treating nature with care. To this end we will continue to expand our nationwide initiative ‘Yashil Makon’,» Mirziyoyev said.

The president also touched on housing development. Over the past eight years, 12,000 apartment blocks have been built across the country. This year, new residential complexes with 130,000 flats will be completed in the ‘New Uzbekistan’ neighbourhoods and other areas.

Mirziyoyev added that, based on master plans, every mahalla and village will be provided with modern urban amenities. The development of small towns with contemporary infrastructure, he noted, will elevate their role and improve living standards.
