Starting September 1, citizens of Uzbekistan visiting Latvia will be required to follow a new entry notification procedure. The amendments to Latvia’s Immigration Law were reported by the Dunyo news agency.

Under the new rules, travelers from third countries — including Uzbekistan — who hold a Schengen visa or a residence permit issued by another EU state must complete an official pre-notification before their trip to Latvia. This requirement also applies to those transiting through the country.

The process involves registering on the portal eta.gov.lv at least 48 hours before departure. Travelers must submit information about the purpose of their trip, planned dates and address of stay, travel route, and contact details. They must also disclose if they or their family members hold elected positions, have participated in elections, or currently serve — or previously served — in government, the armed forces, border or customs services, or diplomatic posts.

Once the information is submitted, travelers will receive electronic confirmation, which serves as proof that their entry purpose has been officially recognized by Latvian authorities.

According to Latvia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, failure to provide the required details — or submission of false or incomplete data — will result in administrative liability. Exemptions apply to individuals with diplomatic immunity, those on official duties, or specialists arriving for short-term technical support.
