Kam Air has entered into an interline cooperation agreement with Uzbekistan Airways to make travel more affordable and convenient for Afghan passengers. The arrangement enables travellers to connect through Tashkent Airport when flying from Europe, the United States and other destinations served by Uzbekistan Airways, by taking Kam Air services from Afghanistan to Uzbekistan.

Jahed Azimi, Chief Executive of Kam Air, said: «After significant efforts, we managed to sign the Interline Agreement with Uzbekistan Airways. This airline, which flies to Europe and the United States, now makes it possible for our passengers to first travel to Tashkent and from there reach Kabul via the shortest route. This is a very good facility for our compatriots.»

Expansion to Istanbul’s Second Airport

In addition to its existing five weekly flights to Istanbul, Kam Air has announced a new service to Istanbul’s Sabiha Gökçen Airport. The airline will initially operate two flights per week on this route, with plans to gradually increase frequency to daily flights.

Azimi noted: «Another agreement Kam Air has signed concerns Istanbul’s Sabiha Airport. At present, the company has scheduled two flights on this route, but in the future, these flights will be operated daily.»

Economic Experts Welcome Move

Specialists in the field believe such agreements not only simplify journeys but also reduce costs for Afghan passengers. Economic analyst Mohammad Nabi Afghan commented:

«Agreements between such companies can not only make travel routes shorter and easier for passengers but also contribute to economic development. Likewise, Afghans travelling abroad will be able to reach their destinations with lower costs instead of paying high prices.»

Fellow analyst Mohammad Asif Stanekzai added:

«This is a positive step, and similar initiatives should be supported and encouraged. It is also necessary to sign agreements with other companies because domestic airlines alone are not capable of progress. They must cooperate with other companies to share activities and profits jointly.»

According to the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, Afghanistan is currently served by two domestic carriers and seven foreign airlines, connecting the country with neighbouring, regional and international destinations.
