Manchester City Sign Gianluigi Donnarumma for £30 Mln

Manchester City have reached an agreement to sign goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth around £30 mln (€35 mln). The transfer clears the path for Ederson’s switch to Turkish side Fenerbahce for £12.1 mln (€14 mln).
Donnarumma, who had been deemed surplus to requirements by PSG manager Luis Enrique following the recent arrival of Lucas Chevalier, is expected to claim the No 1 role under Pep Guardiola. City had already secured James Trafford from Burnley for £27 mln in July, but the young goalkeeper’s costly mistake in the 2-0 defeat to Tottenham has raised doubts about his readiness to lead from the back.
The Italian becomes City’s fifth significant signing of the summer, following the acquisitions of Trafford, Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki and Rayan Aït-Nouri.
Ederson, who joined City from Benfica for £34.9 mln in 2017, leaves behind a glittering legacy. Over seven seasons he lifted six Premier League trophies, two FA Cups, four League Cups, the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup. The Brazilian also played a crucial role in City’s treble-winning campaign in 2022–23.
Elsewhere, defender Manuel Akanji has sealed a season-long loan move to Inter Milan for a €2m fee, with the Italian club holding a €15 mln purchase option for the 30-year-old Swiss international.
Midfielder Kalvin Phillips, however, remains at the Etihad. The 29-year-old, who has been recovering from achilles surgery since May, was unable to secure a move before the window closed. Signed from Leeds United for £45 mln in 2022, Phillips has managed just 16 league appearances for City and spent last season on loan at Ipswich.
Kursiv also reports that Manchester City are reportedly considering a late swoop for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi.
