Uzbekistan and China have agreed to establish a joint centre dedicated to artificial intelligence, aimed at advancing innovation and training future specialists. The initiative was confirmed during talks between President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Alongside this, the two leaders discussed cooperation across science, medicine, education and tourism. Plans include the opening of a branch of the Beijing Institute of Technology in Uzbekistan, while the country will also host the second Educational Forum later this year. Both sides expressed support for expanding the teaching of Chinese, raising scholarship quotas for Uzbek students and strengthening the role of Confucius Institutes.

New Training Hubs

Uzbekistan’s regions are set to see the creation of joint Uzbek-Chinese «Luban Workshops», designed to prepare professionals in sectors such as energy, engineering, artificial intelligence, medicine and agriculture.

Uzbekistan is currently being showcased at a major exhibition in the National Museum of China. Looking ahead, art exhibitions featuring Uzbek works will be staged in Shanghai and Beijing in 2027, further boosting cultural awareness.

As part of President Mirziyoyev’s state visit, the two countries are expected to sign a landmark agreement on the reciprocal opening of cultural centres, underscoring a long-term commitment to deeper people-to-people ties.

At the SCO Summit President Mirziyoyev called for strengthening the efficiency of the organization and its institutions, while supporting the idea of expanding the SCO with new partners, including those from the Global South.
