EastEnders fans have hit out at the BBC after a major spoiler ruined Max Branning’s dramatic return storyline.

The iconic character, played by Jake Wood, made his comeback at the end of Wednesday’s episode. Although his return was first reported back in May, many viewers were unaware he would appear this week.

However, those who went to watch the episode on iPlayer were left angry when the preview image showed Max, spoiling the reveal before they had started watching.

One frustrated fan wrote on Reddit: «I watched Wednesday’s episode today – tell me why iPlayer decided the preview image should be Max? I had no idea he was coming back this week and it totally spoiled the duff duff.»

Another added: «I noticed this today too. I watched it live on the day but I felt bad for others who had it spoiled.»

A third agreed: «Even if it had aired, they shouldn’t have used Max in any preview stills. I watched after work and avoided social media, luckily I didn’t see any Max stills.»

The episode itself was packed with drama before Max appeared. Zoe Slater was left fighting for her life after being accidentally shot during a confrontation between Jack Branning and Ravi Gulati. As Zoe lay in hospital, her mother Kat feared someone was targeting her daughter. When Zoe’s phone rang, Kat answered, only to find Max on the other end, drinking whisky in silence. The chilling moment left Kat unaware of who was really behind the call.

Kursiv also reports that Sydney Sweeney will spotlight her new boxing biopic Christy at the Toronto Film Festival, steering clear of questions about her American Eagle ad.
