Erling Haaland suffered an unusual injury when he was struck in the face by Norway’s team bus, leaving him with a bleeding mouth and three stitches.

The incident happened in Oslo as the Manchester City striker was preparing for Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier against Moldova. Haaland had recently scored the decisive goal in Norway’s 1-0 friendly victory over Finland.

As the squad arrived at their team hotel, Haaland was standing near the luggage compartment when the trunk door swung open and hit him squarely in the mouth. Witnesses reported him swearing in pain before being helped by team doctor Ola Sand and senior security adviser Geir Ellefsen.

The forward later shared a selfie of the injury, confirming he required three stitches. On social media, he joked:

«Just got banged out by a bus door. 3 stitches.»

When a fan teased that he had been punched, Haaland replied with humour, even playfully naming his Norway team-mate Martin Ødegaard as the «culprit».

Despite the mishap, Haaland is expected to feature as Norway look to continue their perfect run in Group I, where they lead with four wins from four matches ahead of Israel, Italy, Estonia and Moldova. Alongside Haaland and Ødegaard, the squad also includes Premier League players Oscar Bobb, Sander Berge and Kristoffer Ajer.

Kursiv also reports that Erling Haaland has admitted he «can’t sleep» after expressing anger at his former club Bryne FK’s decision to axe three first-team players midway through the season.
