Qatar has condemned an Israeli airstrike on buildings in Doha housing Hamas’s political leadership, calling it a «flagrant violation of international law» and warning it reserves the right to respond.
The strike, which coincided with a meeting of Hamas officials to discuss a U.S.-backed ceasefire plan, killed five people including the son of senior Hamas negotiator Khalil al-Hayya. Hamas said its top leaders survived, though it offered no proof.

Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani accused Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu of «dragging the region to a place where it cannot be repaired,» while saying his country would continue efforts to stop the war.

Israel claimed responsibility for the attack, citing recent deadly assaults in Jerusalem and Gaza. Prime Minister Netanyahu said:
«Israel initiated it, Israel conducted it and Israel takes full responsibility.»
The White House distanced itself, with officials calling the strike «an unfortunate incident» that undermined peace talks. Egypt, another mediator, also condemned the attack as a «direct assault» on Qatari sovereignty.
The escalation has thrown ongoing ceasefire negotiations into doubt, with hostage families in Israel warning the strike has further endangered prospects for their loved ones’ release.
