Xiaomi has officially announced the launch of its new flagship line, the Xiaomi 17 series, skipping the Xiaomi 16 generation. Company president Lu Weibing confirmed on Weibo that the unveiling will take place in October 2025, a month earlier than the brand’s usual release schedule.
The series will feature three models: the standard Xiaomi 17, the Xiaomi 17 Pro and the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. All devices will be equipped with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor.
According to leaks, the Xiaomi 17 Pro will include a telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom and a 1/2.51-inch sensor, while the Pro Max will upgrade to a larger 1/1.98-inch sensor with the same zoom capability. Lu described the launch as «the biggest leap in the history of Xiaomi’s digital series» and called the 17 Pro Max «the most powerful flagship in Xiaomi’s history.»
He also acknowledged that Xiaomi is targeting direct competition with Apple and intends to challenge the iPhone on equal footing.
A global release of the Xiaomi 17 series is expected between February and March 2026, with a possible Ultra version arriving in the first quarter of the same year. The handsets will debut with the company’s updated HyperOS 3, making them the first Xiaomi smartphones to ship directly with the upgraded operating system.
