Xpeng Motors has officially launched local production in Europe with the rollout of its G6 and G9 SUV models at Magna’s facility in Graz, Austria. The announcement was made on September 15, CNC reports.
The Graz plant, run by Magna Steyr, is one of Europe’s best-known contract manufacturing facilities. It has previously assembled vehicles for Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Jaguar Land Rover and Toyota. Known for its flexible low- to medium-volume production, the site allows automakers without their own factories in Europe to localise manufacturing. Xpeng plans to expand output to additional models beyond the G6 and G9.
Strong European sales performance
Xpeng first entered the European market in 2021, beginning in Norway. The company now operates in more than 46 countries and regions worldwide. Between January and July 2025, overseas sales reached 18,701 units, up 217% year-on-year, with over 8,000 cars registered in Europe alone. The G6 has been the brand’s standout model, accounting for two thirds of its European sales in the first half of 2025.
Looking ahead, Xpeng intends to introduce its P7+ liftback, promoted as an «AI car,» to European customers. Alongside production in Graz, the firm has also opened its first European research and development centre in Munich to adapt products to local markets. Together with Magna’s capabilities, Xpeng expects to develop a broader line-up for Europe including sedans, mid-size and compact SUVs and high-performance EVs.
Future vision: from EVs to flying cars
At the 2025 Munich Motor Show earlier this month, Xpeng showcased its latest models such as the updated G6 and G9, the new P7, the X9 MPV and the P7+. The display also featured future-facing technologies including humanoid robots, a flying car prototype and the SEPA platform.
Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said the company aims to build an AI-centred ecosystem spanning smart EVs, robotics and flying vehicles with the long-term ambition of becoming a global AI-driven automaker.
Kursiv also reports that the refreshed Zeekr 7X will feature extended driving ranges of 600 km, 620 km, 715 km, 770 km and 802 km.
