Charlotte Church shot to fame as an 11-year-old soprano, selling more than 10 mln records and earning millions from global tours and royal performances. Yet at 39, the Welsh singer admits she is «not a millionaire anymore,» after years of lavish spending and bold investments.

Downsizing and new priorities

Last year, Church sold her six-bedroom home The Spinney, making £1 mln profit but choosing to «massively downsize» to a semi-detached house. She explained the property had once served as a community school and studio but no longer made sense to keep.

Her biggest financial gamble came in 2021 when she bought Rhydoldog House in Powys, a former Laura Ashley estate, for £1.5 mln. She invested her savings into turning it into an eco-retreat called The Dreaming, which finally opened in 2023 after delays, disputes and soaring costs.

A history of high spending

At 18, Church gained access to her fortune, reportedly £7 mln, and spent freely on holidays, cars and property. She once splashed out £10,000 on a friends’ trip to Ibiza and bought a Cardiff home later sold for almost double its value. With ex-partner Gavin Henson she owned a manor and even a yacht moored in Swansea.

Despite such spending, by 2014 her fortune had dwindled. She admitted she would «have to work for the rest of my life» not by choice but by necessity.

Back in the spotlight

Now married with three children, Church has found stability in her wellness project while continuing TV work. After finishing second on The Masked Singer in 2021, she is returning to screens in Celebrity Traitors alongside Jonathan Ross, Alan Carr and Paloma Faith.

For the singer once dubbed the «Voice of an Angel,» it marks both a reinvention and a reminder of the remarkable highs and costly risks of fame.
