Uzbekistan Sends Diplomatic Notes to Ukraine Over Forced Labor Case

Uzbekistan has submitted diplomatic notes to Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry and the Office of the Prosecutor General following reports that 13 of its citizens were subjected to forced labor under degrading conditions at farms in the Kyiv region.
What Happened
Thirteen Uzbek nationals, aged 22 to 42, were lured to Ukraine with promises of high salaries. Upon arrival, their passports were confiscated, and they were forced to work at two agricultural enterprises with severe restrictions on movement.
Authorities say the operation was organized by a Chinese national with assistance from individuals from Thailand, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. A criminal case on human trafficking has been launched.
Current Situation
The victims have been transferred to a hospital in Kyiv region to receive medical care. The Uzbek Embassy in Ukraine said it is working to ensure their safe return home and is cooperating with local officials.
The embassy also advised Uzbek citizens against traveling to Ukraine under current circumstances, citing risks to life and safety.
