Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has been formally recognised for scoring his 100th goal for the club.
The Portuguese midfielder reached the milestone with the opening strike in United’s 2-1 Premier League victory over Chelsea last weekend, becoming only the 23rd player in the club’s history to achieve triple figures.
On Wednesday, director of football Jason Wilcox presented Fernandes with framed artwork during a gathering at Carrington, attended by teammates and staff.
«This is just a small presentation of recognition to Bruno, our captain,» Wilcox said. «He’s scored 100 goals for Manchester United, which is an amazing achievement. Bruno is a shining example to young players and a fantastic representation of our football club.»
Fernandes thanked the club and his colleagues, crediting his teammates for their role in his success.
«I’m very happy and proud to achieve this big number,» he said. «It wasn’t something I dreamed about when I was young, but it’s a privilege. Hopefully, with this, we can put a lot of trophies in the cabinet because that is what matters most.»
United travel to Brentford this weekend, where Fernandes will look to add to his tally and continue leading from the front as captain.
