Electronic music legend Jean-Michel Jarre will give a landmark performance at Registan Square in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, on November 1, 2025. The one-off show, organised with the Uzbekistan Culture Development Foundation, will mark Jarre’s first visit to the country and transform the UNESCO World Heritage site with an immersive display of sound, light and architecture.
The concert will coincide with the 43rd UNESCO General Conference, being hosted in Samarkand for the first time in four decades outside Paris. A UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for many years, Jarre said his performance would honour the city’s historic role as a meeting point of cultures.
«Samarkand has long been a crossroads of cultures,» he remarked. «I hope this concert reflects the spirit of exchange and creativity the city represents.»
Jarre has built a reputation for staging some of the world’s most ambitious open-air concerts at landmark sites, from the Pyramids of Giza to the Eiffel Tower and Beijing’s Forbidden City. His 1997 Moscow performance attracted an audience of 3.5 million, setting a record and solidifying his position as a pioneer of cultural spectacles.
The Samarkand concert follows a notable year for Jarre, including a summer tour across Europe’s historic venues and the release of his Live in Bratislava album and film. The Registan Square event is expected to highlight Uzbekistan’s growing prominence in cultural diplomacy and open a new chapter in the nation’s artistic life.
Kursiv also reports that on September 1 this year, Andrea Bocelli held a concert in Samarkand at the Registan Square.
