The second season of Mnet’s male audition programme Boys Planet concluded on September 25 night with eight winners revealed in the final episode.

Top eight contestants were selected by fan votes cast during the live finale. The series, which began on July 17, featured 160 aspiring K-pop idols competing for a place in the debut line-up.

Grid Entertainment trainee Lee Sang-won topped the rankings with more than 7.2 mln votes, followed by Zhou An Xin of Nouer Entertainment and Boy Story’s He Xin Long, who is signed under JYP Entertainment.

«Although filming lasted only three months, it felt like a year. I want to express my deepest gratitude to the production staff for their effort,» Lee said in tears, also thanking his fans and parents.

Independent trainee Kim Geon-woo secured fourth place with over 4.8 mln votes, while Nouer Entertainment’s Zhang Jia Hao ranked fifth. Australian Korean trainee Lee Leo of Grid Entertainment placed sixth, with WakeOne Entertainment’s Chung Sang-hyeon in seventh. Kim Jun-seo, a member of WEi, completed the line-up in eighth.

Eight winners will debut together as Alpha Drive One (ALD1). Their name symbolises unity, passion and the drive to reach the top of the music industry.

The group’s contract is expected to run for five years.
