Today, September 27, marks the 27th anniversary of Google, the tech giant that began as a research project and grew into one of the most influential companies in the world. To commemorate the occasion, Google unveiled a celebratory Doodle on its homepage.

Founded in 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin while they were PhD students at Stanford University, Google started as a search engine designed to organize the world’s information. Over nearly three decades, it has expanded into a global ecosystem of products and services — from Android and Chrome to YouTube, Google Maps, and AI-powered tools like Bard and Gemini.

The birthday Doodle, shared on Google’s Doodle archive, reflects the company’s tradition of marking milestones with creative visuals. This year, instead of a modern animation or interactive design, the Doodle showcases the original Google logo from 1998, complete with a serif font and a blue exclamation mark at the end.

From Search to Everything

  • Search Engine Origins: Launched in 1998, Google revolutionized how people access information online.
  • Diversification: Over the years, Google introduced Gmail (2004), Google Maps (2005), Chrome (2008), and Android (acquired in 2005).
  • AI and Cloud: In recent years, Google has invested heavily in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and quantum research.
  • Parent Company: In 2015, Google restructured under Alphabet Inc., allowing its various ventures—from Waymo to DeepMind—to operate independently.

A Global Impact

Today, Google Search handles billions of queries daily in over 150 languages. Its services are used by individuals, businesses, educators, and governments worldwide. The company’s influence spans digital advertising, mobile platforms, productivity software, and emerging technologies.
