Uzbekistan Approves Save Food Plan to Reduce Waste and Reuse Products

Uzbekistan’s Cabinet of Ministers has approved a national Save Food programme aimed at reducing food disposal and cutting waste, Lex.uz reports.
Under the new rules, goods approaching their expiry dates will be placed on special shelves near shop entrances. Their prices will gradually fall every ten days until the final sale date. The Tax Committee and Ministry of Health will monitor compliance.
From January 1, 2026, catering establishments will also be required to install grease traps, air filters and odour catchers when cooking on open flames. These requirements will be included in urban planning regulations and become conditions for connecting to the sewage system.
The programme also calls for recycling food waste for use in agriculture. Farmers will receive training in composting and be provided with methodological guidance.
Officials expect the measures to reduce the volume of discarded products, improve environmental conditions and make some food more affordable for the population.
Kursiv also reports that a German company, AMK Global, could become a partner in a planned waste recycling plant in Uzbekistan’s Tashkent region.
