Lewis Hamilton has announced the passing of his dog Roscoe, who passed away after being treated for pneumonia.

Roscoe was admitted to hospital last week and placed in a coma. Hamilton, who missed a Pirelli tyre test to remain by his side, revealed that his pet died in his arms on Sunday evening. The loss comes five years after the passing of his other dog, Coco.

In an emotional message posted on Monday, Hamilton said:

«After four days on life support, fighting with every bit of strength he had, I had to make the hardest decision of my life and say goodbye to Roscoe. He never stopped fighting, right until the very end.»

The seven-time world champion described Roscoe as «a beautiful soul, an angel and true friend», adding that bringing him into his life was «the best decision I ever made». Hamilton reflected on the difficulty of having to put his pet to sleep, calling it «one of the most painful experiences» while expressing solidarity with others who have faced the same loss.

Despite the heartbreak, Hamilton said that having Roscoe had been «one of the most beautiful parts of life», allowing him to experience the joy of deep love and loyalty. He also thanked fans for the affection they had shown his pet over the years, saying it had been «so special to witness and feel».

He later posted a video edit with Roscoe on his Instagram:

Official accounts of F1 teams also posted their condolences on social media.
