Actress Emma Watson has said she still loves and «treasures» Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, even though they disagree on trans rights.

Speaking on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast, Watson said her personal memories with Rowling remain important to her.

«I will never believe that one negates the other,» she said. «My experience of that person I get to keep and cherish.»

Watson has often voiced support for trans rights. Rowling’s views on the subject have led to strong criticism and calls to boycott Harry Potter media.

The actress also spoke about her struggles with ADHD, her driving ban and her decision to step back from acting after 2019. She said she felt pressure to find «family» in her work after growing up on the Harry Potter set, and admitted the loss of those expectations «broke» her.

Watson reflected on a past Instagram post supporting Palestine, saying she was concerned about how the word antisemitism was used against her at the time. She added that people should feel safe talking about the issue.

Watson has not appeared in a film since Little Women but said she is now focusing on her personal growth and life outside of acting.
