President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed new plans on October 6 to expand the development and application of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in Uzbekistan’s economy and social sectors.

Uzbekistan’s AI Progress Recognised

AI is now becoming a crucial tool in fields such as education, healthcare, energy and governance. Its use is expected to improve state management efficiency, optimise resource allocation and enhance the quality of public services.

Over the past few years, Uzbekistan has implemented steady reforms in this area, rising 17 places in the global AI application ranking to 70th among 188 countries and first in Central Asia.

The president said these achievements marked the first stage of a longer journey. A national AI development strategy until 2030 was approved last year, and a dedicated centre was established under the Ministry of Digital Technologies.

An investment package worth $50 mln has been allocated to introduce AI solutions in healthcare, education, agriculture, energy, transport, ecology and finance. A supercomputer cluster is also being developed to provide the country with advanced computing capabilities.

Building Expertise and Global Cooperation

«To accelerate AI development, we must study and apply leading domestic and international experience, strengthen cooperation with experts abroad and engage the private sector,» Mirziyoyev stressed.

He highlighted the importance of building modern data centres and creating favourable conditions for investors in AI infrastructure.

Developing qualified professionals is seen as a key success factor. Efforts are under way to update school curricula, improve IT teaching standards and introduce new-generation textbooks.

Through the national programme «One Million AI Leaders», the platforms aistudy.uz and omp.aistudy.uz now offer five free online courses aimed at training one million young specialists by 2027.

Hackathons will be held across the country to identify and support promising AI ideas. A recent event in Nukus focused on healthcare technology, and similar initiatives are planned in education, water management, justice and entrepreneurship.

The president endorsed these plans and instructed officials to expand and accelerate AI implementation using best practices and enhanced training programmes.

Kursiv also reports that Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has underlined that a brighter future can only be achieved through the synergy of human potential and advanced technological innovation.
