
President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has proposed the creation of an International University of Turkic States and several new economic partnerships during the summit of the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS) held in Gabala.
Among his key initiatives was a call to hold the first joint meeting of the foreign ministers and security agency heads of OTS member countries in Samarkand to discuss regional security challenges. He also urged the swift adoption of the Treaty on Strategic Partnership and the development of a Strategy for the Development of Turkic States through to 2030.
Strengthening Economic Cooperation
Mirziyoyev outlined a series of economic proposals, including the establishment of a Permanent Council for Economic Partnership with headquarters in Tashkent, the creation of an Industrial Alliance of Turkic Countries, the launch of a «Turkic Green Corridors» system and the formation of a «Green Transformation» consortium.
He also emphasised the importance of developing the Middle Corridor and linking it to the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway and the Trans-Afghan corridor. The president called for greater digitalisation of customs procedures and a reduction in tariffs to enhance regional connectivity and trade efficiency.
Expanding Education, Culture and Innovation
Turning to education and culture, Mirziyoyev announced plans to establish an International University of Turkic States in Uzbekistan and proposed hosting a 2026 conference dedicated to the works of Nizami Ganjavi and Alisher Navoi.
He further suggested creating a «Roadmap on Artificial Intelligence and the Creative Economy» to promote technological innovation, along with initiatives to combat extremism and raise environmental awareness among young people.
Kursiv also reports that uring last year’s meeting of the Organisation of Turkic States in Bishkek, the participants signed a memorandum to establish a council on green finance.
