Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who has been awarded the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, released a statement on social media platform X thanking Donald Trump, the American people, and democratic nations worldwide for their support in her country’s ongoing struggle for democracy.
«This immense recognition of the struggle of all Venezuelans is an impetus to complete our task: achieving freedom,» Machado wrote. «We are on the threshold of victory, and today more than ever we count on President Trump, the people of the United States, the people of Latin America, and the democratic nations of the world as our principal allies in achieving freedom and democracy. Venezuela will be free!»
Her post appeared just hours after the Nobel Committee in Oslo announced her as this year’s Peace Prize laureate, honouring her for her «tireless fight for the democratic rights of Venezuelans.»
The US president Donald Trump shared Machado’s post on his Truth Social account, adding no comment but marking it with a US flag emoji and a gesture of gratitude, a symbolic gesture of support for Venezuela’s pro-democracy movement.
