On October 15, 2025, at 17:40 (GMT+5), AirAsia’s inaugural flight from Kuala Lumpur landed at Tashkent International Airport, marking the launch of the new direct route connecting Malaysia and Uzbekistan. The aircraft, carrying 218 passengers, was greeted with a traditional water salute and flowers for the crew.

Passenger check-in for the first flight took place in a festive atmosphere, featuring a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a celebratory cake shared by representatives of AirAsia and Uzbekistan Airports. Guests were also treated to a performance by a national dance ensemble, adding colour and cultural flair to the event.

«We are delighted to open this new route linking Malaysia and Uzbekistan,» said an AirAsia representative. «Our goal is to make travel more accessible and inspiring while contributing to the growth of tourism and business relations between our countries.»

Umid Khamrayev, First Deputy Director of Uzbekistan Airports Handling, welcomed the new partnership:

«We are pleased to greet AirAsia in Tashkent and are confident the route will attract strong demand. We will ensure the highest comfort and service for all passengers.»

The Kuala Lumpur–Tashkent–Kuala Lumpur flights will operate three times a week — on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays — using wide-body Airbus A330 aircraft.

Kursiv also reports that Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC) signed a $24.5 mln consulting contract for the New Tashkent International Airport, a large-scale infrastructure project worth $3.3 bn.
