Uzbekistan and EU to Sign Enhanced Partnership Agreement

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev will travel to Brussels on October 24, where Uzbekistan and the European Union are expected to sign an Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement.
«The agreement underlines the commitment of both sides to continue reforms, economic modernisation and global cooperation, while setting the stage for further initiatives such as the upcoming EU–Central Asia Investment Forum in Tashkent this November,» Euronews highlights.
The document is designed to strengthen political dialogue and expand cooperation in foreign policy, security and justice, with a focus on improving trade conditions. It also includes collaboration in energy, transport, ecology, digital economy and education.
Uzbekistan’s Foreign Ministry noted that the accord provides Brussels with access to Central Asia’s fast-growing market and opportunities in green energy and sustainable transport links between Europe and Asia.
For Uzbekistan, it represents a step toward deeper integration with Europe, improved access to EU markets under the GSP+ system and support for the modernisation of key industries.
According to Euronews, trade between Uzbekistan and the EU has risen to €54 bn over the past seven years. Last year’s figure reached €6.4 bn, up 8% year-on-year, while the European investment portfolio in Uzbekistan stands at around €40 bn.
Kursiv also reports that on August 26 Uzbekistan inaugurated its first Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) in Tashkent with the support of the EU and the ICMPD.
