Pavel Durov Offers to Buy Back Stolen Louvre Treasures and Send Them to Abu Dhabi

Telegram founder Pavel Durov said he is ready to buy the jewels stolen from the Louvre Museum in Paris and donate them to the Louvre Abu Dhabi. According to him, the museum in the UAE is better protected against theft and similar incidents.
The robbery took place on October 19. Thieves broke into the «Apollo Gallery,» where jewelry from the eras of the Empire, the Restoration, Napoleon III, and Empress Eugénie were displayed. In total, nine pieces of jewelry were stolen.
Durov said the incident did not surprise him.
«This is another sad sign of the decline of a once-great country, where the government has perfected the art of distracting people with imaginary threats instead of facing real ones,» he wrote.
Earlier, Durov criticised the European Union for almost banning citizens’ right to privacy. He also accused France of trying to pass a law that would require messengers to scan users’ private messages. According to Durov, Germany’s intervention at the last moment prevented the law from being adopted.
