Condor Energies, a Canadian energy transition firm active in Central Asia, has completed the vertical section of its first gas well in Uzbekistan, reaching a depth of 2,805 metres. The pilot well confirmed gas-bearing zones in both carbonate and deeper clastic reservoirs, with 28.5 metres and 9.1 metres of net gas pay respectively.

The company is now sidetracking the well horizontally, aiming for a 1,000-metre section, the longest ever drilled in Uzbekistan. Completion and testing are expected by November 2025, with projected initial output between 13 and 20 MMscf/day.

Condor is also deploying a second rig to drill in a southern gas field where recent recompletion boosted production from 1.1 to 7.5 MMscf/day. This success has de-risked a larger structure identified via 3D seismic data. Plans for 2026 include up to five horizontal wells targeting three reservoirs to accelerate development.

Kursiv also reports that oil prices rose by roughly 2.5% on October 23 after the United States imposed sanctions on Russia’s Rosneft and Lukoil.
