Sheffield Wednesday have entered administration, according to a court filing on Friday, marking the latest chapter in the financial struggles of one of England’s oldest football clubs.

The Championship side had already faced multiple charges from the English Football League (EFL) earlier this year for failing to pay players’ wages on time. The club has previously been hit with registration embargoes and a six-point deduction during the 2020–21 season for breaching profit and sustainability rules.

Owned by Thai businessman Dejphon Chansiri since 2015, Sheffield Wednesday currently sit bottom of the Championship table with just six points from 11 games. Chansiri, who was also charged by the EFL for his role in the club’s financial breaches, had previously apologized to supporters and pledged to stabilize the club’s finances.

The administration filing raises serious concerns over the club’s future, as Wednesday continue to battle both on and off the pitch.
