Uzbek President Mirziyoyev Meets European Business Leaders

During his official visit to Belgium, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan held a roundtable with senior executives from leading European companies and banks, including Linde, SUEZ, Commerzbank, the European Investment Bank, and others. EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos also took part.
The President said the participation of major European firms reflected mutual trust and a shared commitment to strengthening cooperation. He noted that the upcoming Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement with the EU would mark a new chapter in bilateral relations.
Over the past seven years, Uzbekistan’s trade with the EU has doubled, and the number of joint ventures with European partners has surpassed 1,000, underscoring growing investor confidence in Uzbekistan’s reforms.
Mirziyoyev praised Europe’s support in modernising Uzbekistan’s economy, introducing advanced technologies, and improving corporate governance. He also highlighted progress in education, with new universities and joint programmes expanding access for youth.
The President outlined four key areas for future cooperation:
- High-value industrial projects using domestic raw materials;
- Expansion of the green economy and chemical industry;
- Development of infrastructure and logistics, linking Europe and Asia;
- Growth in digital technology, including AI and cybersecurity.
European business leaders commended Uzbekistan’s stable investment climate and reaffirmed their readiness to participate in new joint projects.
