US Special Envoy Sergio Gor and Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau arrived in Tashkent on October 25. Their visit aims to strengthen cooperation in critical minerals, energy and regional initiatives under the C5+1 framework.
According to the US Embassy, discussions centred on opportunities to boost trade and investment between Uzbekistan and the United States. The visiting diplomats also held talks with local business representatives, exploring prospects for joint growth and a stronger strategic partnership.
As part of their trip, Gor and Landau travelled to Samarkand on 26 October, where they toured historic landmarks alongside Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov and the US Ambassador Jonathan Henick.
For Sergio Gor, the visit held personal significance. Born in Tashkent during the Soviet era, he later emigrated with his family to Israel and then to Malta.
US officials reaffirmed that closer economic and energy cooperation with Uzbekistan remains a cornerstone of the two countries’ strategic relationship. The envoys’ next stop will be Kazakhstan, where they plan to continue discussions on regional collaboration.
The visit comes ahead of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s upcoming working trip to the United States in November. On November 6, he will take part in the C5+1 summit in Washington, which will also be attended by US President Donald Trump and the leaders of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. The summit aims to strengthen political dialogue and economic integration across Central Asia.
