Donations for Hualien Flood Victims Reach Nearly NT$1.4 Bn

Donations for victims of the devastating floods in Hualien County have reached nearly NT$1.4 billion (US$45.6 Mln), the Ministry of Health and Welfare announced.
The ministry’s Taiwan Foundation for Disaster Relief collected NT$1.39 Bn from more than 310K contributions before the donation deadline on Friday. The funds were raised to assist residents affected by the Mataian River overflow in Guangfu Township after Typhoon Ragasa triggered heavy rains on Sept. 23.
The disaster claimed 19 lives, left five missing and injured 157, with over 1,600 households impacted by mudslides and flooding.
Of the total donations, NT$829 Mln has already been distributed as financial aid to victims. Remaining funds will be allocated in three phases, additional relief for affected families, assistance for disadvantaged households, and community reconstruction projects.
The ministry said donors will begin receiving receipts next month, and contributions will be tax-deductible in next year’s filings.
