Cameron Norrie Stuns Carlos Alcaraz to End World Number One’s 17-Match Masters Streak in Paris

Britain’s Cameron Norrie pulled off the biggest win of his career on October 28, defeating world number one Carlos Alcaraz 4-6 6-3 6-4 to reach the third round of the Paris Masters and snap the Spaniard’s 17-match winning streak at ATP Masters 1000 tournaments.
Fresh from lifting his eighth title of the season in Tokyo, Alcaraz looked uncharacteristically out of rhythm, committing 54 unforced errors and showing visible frustration during tense exchanges with his coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero.
After taking the first set, the six-time Grand Slam champion lost momentum, while Norrie grew increasingly composed. The Brit, ranked 31st in the world, saved two break points in the decisive set’s seventh game and held firm to close out victory after two hours and 22 minutes.
«Massive, so big for me,» Norrie said after the match. «I’ve been coming back from injury. Last year I lost in the first round of qualifying here. I’ve tried to enjoy my tennis again, and to get a win like this — my first over a world number one — is just amazing, especially against the most confident player in the world right now.»
The defeat marked Alcaraz’s first loss before a final since March, halting a dominant run that saw him claim Masters titles in Monte Carlo, Rome, and Cincinnati.
Next Up for Norrie
The victory sends Norrie into the last 16 of a Masters event for the first time since Rome 2023, equalling his best previous result in Paris from 2021.
Alcaraz’s early exit could also threaten his year-end number one ranking, with Italy’s Jannik Sinner poised to overtake him if he captures the Paris title.
Norrie will next face either Valentin Vacherot or Arthur Rinderknech, who meet in a rematch of the Shanghai Masters final on October 29.
