Chennaiyin FC finished their Super Cup 2025 campaign after a remarkable 1-1 draw with Dempo SC, highlighted by an extraordinary goal from goalkeeper Samik Mitra. The all-Indian squad is managed by Clifford Miranda.

The game took an unexpected turn in the 30th minute when Samik became the first goalkeeper in Chennaiyin’s history to score from open play in a competitive fixture. His long kick from inside his own penalty area sailed over Dempo’s defence and looped past their keeper to bring the scores level.

Earlier, Dempo had taken the lead in the 25th minute with a well-placed free-kick, punishing Chennaiyin after a strong opening spell. However, Samik’s strike soon reignited his side’s momentum.

In the closing stages, Chennaiyin pushed hard for a winner. Gurkirat Singh’s late effort was diverted for a corner, while in stoppage time Klusner Pereira’s curling cross found Irfan Yadwad, whose attempt rolled narrowly wide.

Despite missing out on victory, the performance capped off a promising finish for Miranda’s side, who had earlier fallen to Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan Super Giant and East Bengal.

Kursiv also reports that in the Russian Premier League, Lokomotiv’s Dmitry Vorobyov scored a zero-angle goal.
