Actress and model Julia Fox caused a stir this Halloween after dressing as a blood-soaked Jackie Kennedy on the day of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination.
The 35-year-old star wore a pink skirt suit and matching pillbox hat reminiscent of the double-breasted outfit the former First Lady had on November 22, 1963, when JFK was fatally shot during a motorcade in Dallas, Texas. Fox completed her look with white gloves, a short black wig, and a black handbag as she attended The Cursed Amulet’s Halloween party in New York City on October 30.
She later shared photos of her striking costume on Instagram Stories.
Historical Inspiration Behind the Outfit
Jackie Kennedy’s original pink Chanel-style suit, shoes and accessories were famously «blood-covered and folded in a towel» after the shooting, according to The New York Times. The ensemble remains preserved at the National Archives and Records Administration in Maryland.
Her maid, Providencia Paredes, reportedly packed the garments without cleaning them before they were transferred to the archives in 1964. The First Lady’s haunting appearance in the suit beside Lyndon B. Johnson, moments after he was sworn in as president, became one of the defining images of American history.
A Costume Close to a Tragic Memory
Jackie had worn the two-piece several times before her husband’s death, reportedly a licensed copy of a Chanel design. Fox’s reimagining of the outfit comes just weeks before the 62nd anniversary of the assassination.
At the time of his death, JFK was 46 years old. Lady Bird Johnson, wife of the newly sworn-in president, later described how Jackie shielded her husband’s body with her own.
«It was Mrs Kennedy lying over the President’s body,» she wrote in her diary. «Her dress was stained with blood, one leg almost entirely covered, her glove caked with her husband’s blood.»
