Former England captain David Beckham has been knighted by King Charles in recognition of his contribution to football and British society. The 50-year-old received the honour at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, accompanied by his wife Victoria and his parents.

Beckham said he was «incredibly proud», highlighting his patriotism and long-standing admiration for the monarchy. «I’ve always said how important the monarchy is to my family,» he said, adding that people often ask him about the Royal Family when he travels abroad.

Victoria Beckham designed her husband’s morning suit for the ceremony, inspired by archival images of the King in his youth. Beckham joked that His Majesty was «quite impressed» with the look.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder earned 115 England caps and captained the national side for six years. Beyond football, he has long supported charitable causes, including UNICEF and the King’s Foundation, and played a role in bringing the 2012 Olympics to London.

Beckham previously received an OBE in 2003 and famously queued for more than 12 hours to pay respects to Queen Elizabeth II in 2022.
