A rare update has emerged on Michael Schumacher’s health, with a Formula One insider hinting at signs of improvement more than a decade after the racing icon’s near-fatal skiing accident.

French motorsport journalist Stéfan L’Hermitt of L’Équipe said there were «good signs» surrounding Schumacher’s condition, suggesting possible progress over the past year.

Speaking to Le Grand Récit, L’Hermitt said:

«I would say he’s not doing well, but he might be getting better because fundamentally we don’t know anything.»

He noted that Schumacher’s signature appeared on a helmet for a charity event earlier this year, marking his first public act in over a decade.

«Was it his wife who held his hand? We don’t know exactly, but it’s the first positive sign, almost a sign of life,» he said.

In April, Schumacher’s initials, «M.S,» were seen on fellow racing legend Sir Jackie Stewart’s helmet, reportedly signed with help from his wife Corinna.

Strict Privacy and Limited Access

Since the skiing accident in December 2013 on the Alpine slopes of Méribel, France, Schumacher has not been seen publicly. It is believed that only three people have regular access to him at his secluded home on the island of Majorca.

Corinna Schumacher, 56, has maintained strict privacy around her husband’s condition, forming a close inner circle and ensuring no unauthorised information is released.

Rumours last year that Schumacher had attended his daughter Gina’s wedding were later dismissed by his former teammate Johnny Herbert as false.

Blackmail Case and Breach of Trust

Earlier this year, Corinna faced a blackmail plot involving stolen private footage of Schumacher.

A German court sentenced three men, including a former security guard, for attempting to extort £12 mln in exchange for not publishing the material.

Corinna said the case represented a «massive breach of trust» and called for stronger punishment to deter similar acts.

A Legacy Beyond the Track

Michael Schumacher remains one of Formula One’s most decorated champions, sharing the record of seven world titles with Sir Lewis Hamilton.

He achieved championships in 1994, 1995, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004, and stood on the podium 155 times during his legendary career.

After the 2013 accident, Schumacher was placed in a medically induced coma for over eight months following two life-saving brain surgeries. He later underwent stem cell therapy in France in 2019, aimed at regenerating his nervous system.
