Gayane Umerova Elected Chair of UNESCO General Assembly Session

Gayane Umerova, head of Uzbekistan’s Art and Culture Development Foundation and the National Commission for UNESCO Affairs, has been elected chair of the 25th session of the UNESCO General Assembly.

She was chosen by the member states of the Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage during the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference held in Samarkand.

Umerova was recognised for her efforts in promoting cultural heritage and contemporary art, as well as for strengthening Uzbekistan’s international cultural presence. Her work in advancing cultural diplomacy and initiatives aimed at preserving and popularising Uzbekistan’s rich heritage also played a key role in her appointment.
