Epstein Emails Revive Questions About Trump as White House Denounces “Democratic Smear”

Leaked Epstein emails reignite scrutiny of Trump’s ties while Republicans call the disclosures politically motivated

Newly released emails from Jeffrey Epstein are reviving scrutiny of Donald Trump’s past ties to the disgraced financier, even as the White House dismisses the disclosures as a partisan attack.

Democrats on the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday published three emails referencing Trump, including a 2011 message in which Epstein told Ghislaine Maxwell that Trump had «spent hours» at his house with Virginia Giuffre, a central accuser in the Epstein scandal. In a separate 2019 email to journalist Michael Wolff, Epstein wrote that Trump «knew about the girls,» though the context and meaning of that claim remain unclear.

The documents are part of some 23,000 records turned over by Epstein’s estate to the committee. Republicans responded by releasing what they said were an additional 20,000 pages of Epstein-related materials and accused Democrats of cherry-picking emails to damage Trump.

The White House said Democrats «selectively leaked emails» to «create a fake narrative to smear President Trump,» while Trump, on his Truth Social platform, called the matter a «Jeffrey Epstein Hoax» aimed at deflecting from the government shutdown and other issues.

Giuffre, who died earlier this year, had repeatedly stated under oath and in her memoir that Trump never abused her and that she did not believe he knew about Epstein’s sexual exploitation of underage girls. Other Epstein staffers have similarly said they saw no inappropriate conduct by Trump.

Maxwell, now serving a 20-year sentence for conspiring to engage in sex trafficking, also told the Justice Department in a 2024 interview that she never witnessed Trump act inappropriately and described him as a «gentleman» in her presence.
