Joseph Kosinski has confirmed that he is in active talks with Apple to direct a sequel to F1: The Movie. The director is currently exploring ideas for the next chapter in the story of Sonny Hayes, played by Brad Pitt.

“We are at the stage where we are dreaming up what the next chapter for Sonny Hayes and APX GP could be. Based on the global reaction to the film, it is clearly something audiences want to see,” Kosinski said.

He also confirmed that work is progressing on a sequel to Top Gun: Maverick, with the script now in development.

F1: The Movie was released worldwide in June 2025. It follows a veteran driver who quit racing 30 years earlier due to injury and agrees to mentor a rising star.

The film’s commercial success played a key role in Apple’s interest in a follow-up. It earned more than $631 mln at the global box office and holds an 82% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
