Shinhan Bank Adds Uzbek and Nepali to Foreign-Language Services

Shinhan Bank announced on Monday that it has added Uzbek and Nepali to its foreign-language consulting services, responding to the rising number of migrant workers from the two countries, Korea Herald reports.
With the new languages, the bank now provides consultations in 12 languages, including English, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Mongolian, Thai, Russian, Cambodian, Filipino, Indonesian, Uzbek and Nepali, giving it the most extensive foreign-language support in South Korea’s domestic banking sector.
Demand for native-language financial assistance has grown recently as more workers from Uzbekistan and Nepal arrive in the country. Shinhan’s Foreign Language Consultation Center, a dedicated phone service for non-Korean speakers, helps with overseas remittances, account openings, mobile banking and provides real-time interpretation between branch staff and customers who do not speak Korean.
«This expansion of Uzbek and Nepali consulting services is part of our efforts to create an environment where foreign customers can access financial services without language barriers,» a Shinhan official said. «We will continue to address financial blind spots for foreign customers.»
The bank said it is also improving convenience for foreign clients through automated voice guidance for key credit and loan notifications and an after-care survey programme for new account holders.
