Saida Mirziyoyeva Pushes New Air Quality Measures Amid Severe Pollution in Tashkent

Uzbekistan’s Presidential Administration chief Saida Mirziyoyeva has called for stronger environmental oversight during a meeting on Tashkent’s worsening air quality, the presidential press service reports.
The government will introduce tougher requirements for construction and tree planting, alongside plans to create a national air monitoring system. These proposals will form the basis of a draft decree to be reviewed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
At the meeting, officials outlined the key factors driving the current pollution levels in the capital and discussed potential steps to reduce risks to public health and the environment.
Based on this data, Mirziyoyeva proposed a set of measures that range from urgent interventions to long-term structural solutions aimed at preventing similar situations in the future.
The presidential press service stressed that «people’s health cannot be a matter of compromise and this principle must be shared by both the state and businesses».
According to climatologist Erkin Abdullakhadov, air quality across Uzbekistan is expected to improve from Thursday November 27 due to a shift in air flows.
As of 9:40 (GMT+5) on November 25, Tashkent’s air was classified as unhealthy, with PM2.5 particles identified as the main pollutant.
