On November 28, following Friday prayers, all mosques in Uzbekistan will hold the Istisqa — a collective prayer asking Allah to send rain, according to the Spiritual Administration of Muslims.
The initiative comes amid a prolonged autumn drought and the absence of forecasted rainfall. Officials noted that the prayer for rain has deep roots in Islamic tradition.
At the same time, animals will be sacrificed in central mosques across regions and districts, as well as at sacred sites. The meat will be distributed to needy families, orphans, widows, low-income households and elderly individuals living alone.
Uzbeks currently in Mecca and Medina are advised to perform the Istisqa prayer at the holy sites with their groups.
