At the 63rd annual WBC Convention in Bangkok, the Board of Directors approved a major rebranding of the CISBB federation, which will now operate under the name WBC EuroAsia. Uzbek sports figure Gafur Rakhimov was unanimously elected president of the newly established body.

Rakhimov, who has been part of the WBC family since 2023 as a member of the Supreme Council, was warmly welcomed by the organization’s leadership. WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán expressed deep appreciation for Rakhimov’s longstanding support, calling him «Uzbekistan’s boxing father» and praising his role in strengthening cooperation between Uzbekistan and the global boxing community.

Uzbekistan joined the WBC just over two years ago, yet has already hosted a WBC Convention—an event that, according to organizers, highlighted Rakhimov’s energy, commitment and organizational capabilities. His election is seen as elevating cooperation to a new level across the Eurasian region.

The transformation of CISBB into WBC EuroAsia marks the start of what the WBC describes as «a new era» connecting Europe and Asia through expanded projects and initiatives. In his remarks, Rakhimov reflected on his long and friendly relationship with the late José Sulaimán, the WBC’s Eternal President and a key figure in shaping modern boxing.
